This workshop is co-hosted by Let's Talk Dogs owned and

Do you feel your private
sessions are getting nowhere? Do you become frustrated with
clients that are not receptive to your ideas or they just do
not follow your suggestions? Are you stumped by more complex
problems and family dynamics?
If you are an instructor/ trainer that wants to further your
knowledge and skills with clients this “back to the classroom”
education experience is for you. Using the Instructor Training
Course interactive model for learning, you can expect lots of
group discussion, break out groups, direct observation, and
homework.
Through case analysis, guided by Pia Silvani, you will
evaluate, dissect, brainstorm, and create programs that the
average pet owner can buy into and see results. You will
review real cases with known outcomes looking at what worked
and what did not. In the context of reviewing the cases and
the lectures, common challenges will be discussed, including:
• Promoting buy-in and compliance in complex families
• Dealing with family dynamics at odds with dog training
• Designing easy to follow protocols
• Creating programs that are flexible, easily customized, and
fluid with lots of options
• Getting quick, meaningful results
• Dealing with resurgences and relapses
• Giving just the right amount of client education
• Pinpointing the most critical issue in the midst of multiple
problems
Conducting effective consultations that leave clients educated
and motivated is an art and skill that takes quick thinking
and the ability to flush out the issues and then prioritize
the client’s needs. Observe Pia conduct a live consultation
interview and then evaluate and discuss the protocol
suggestions.
Pia will also provide helpful information with lectures each
day that include: understanding behavior modification; client
compliance; and using critical thinking when considering
punishment.
Registration is limited to 36 people to encourage
participation and more personal learning.

Pia
Silvani CPDT-KA CABC
Pia's love of teaching began over 30 years ago as a private
fitness trainer, dance instructor, and swimming and track and
field coach for the Special Olympics. She was also Regional
Clinician for an international aerobics corporation where she
trained new instructors in the field. After 13 years of
paralegal/office management work, she decided to make her
part-time teaching career a full-time dream. She combined her
love of teaching people with her other fondness--dogs.
Pia is Director of Training and
Behavior at St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center in Madison, New
Jersey. The nonprofit organization’s Dog Training School
offers one of the largest and most comprehensive training
programs in the United States. Pia has developed various
courses focusing on positive, reward-based techniques, which
are extremely effective in the enhancement of the human-animal
bond. The result of her efforts is an astounding 100+ classes
per week, which includes eight levels of pet training classes,
specialty courses designed for dogs with extreme behavioral
problems and much more. She has written six training manuals,
which are being used around the country as a resource guide
for other trainers.
Pia also developed a behavior
department and conducts private consultations specializing in
aggressive and anxiety-related problems for dogs and cats.
She contributes behavior articles for the shelter's newsletter
and library and has been featured many times in national and
international publications. Pia has made numerous guest
appearances on television and radio and is called upon
frequently to lecture all over the United States as well as
three other continents. She shares her expertise with various
shelters to assist them in improving and expanding their
programs.
Pia’s book, Raising Puppies
and Kids Together - A Guide for Parents, was voted in the
top three parenting books for a Franklin D. Roosevelt
Foundation Award. She is a contributor to several other
published books including: Professional Standards for Dog
Trainers: Effective, Humane Principles, sponsored by
Delta Society, The Dog Trainer's Resource, Volumes I and II,
published by Dogwise, as well as The Dog Behavior Answer
Book by Storey Books Publications.
Pia was recently honored as one
of Bark’s 100: The Best and Brightest. Listed in their
Top 10 Teacher Category, Bark writes - “Pia Silvani
turned her love of teaching people and dogs into an amazing
career as an internationally recognized canine coach and one
of the training and behavior world’s go-to people.”
