The "Terrible Teens" is one of the most trying times for owners and is a critical time for the adolescent dog that is gaining independence, applying early learning (or lack of it) to the world, and experiencing psychological and physiological changes. Adolescence is a period when dogs are at the highest risk for losing their families and/or their lives. The "Terrible Teens" phenomenon happens for many reasons. Often puppy owners forget or do not fully understand that raising a well-behaved and well-adjusted adult dog is a lengthy process that is subject to a number of developmental stages for the dog. This can be especially trying when the owners look down and see what appears to be a fully grown dog. They may wonder why the wonderful puppy they have spent countless hours guiding is suddenly behaving badly or has not “grown out” of a behavior. Or it could be a case of an adolescent puppy relinquished to a shelter or back to the breeder having a difficult time adjusting to a new home, a different set of rules, and a new family.

This seminar is about those dogs: the untrained, overly-excitable, bullying, suspicious, fearful, socially awkward, or shy adolescent and how to help owners teach them to be compliant, happy companions. Using discussion, video and a live consultation, Trish King will concentrate on practical tips - improving management, developing a relationship, handling techniques, and deciding which exercises might be most appropriate for teenage dogs.  Whether you have a “Terrible Teen”, or make your living working with or transforming them, this is the seminar for you!

Consultation Dog Needed
Do you have an adolescent dog that is exhibiting problematic behavior? Is he socially inappropriate? Does he lack impulse control? Is he getting in trouble and you need some fresh advice? We will be selecting one or possibly two participants' dogs to help during the live consultation portion of the seminar. When you register for the seminar, indicate that you are interested in getting coached by Trish. Candidates for the consultation will be reviewed by the host and speaker to determine which scenario will be best for this educational setting as well as for dog and owner. Registration for the seminar can not be contingent on being accepted as the consultation.
