We are very sorry, that
Donna is unable to speak at this seminar. We are proud to have
Dee Ganley teach for us.
Dee
Ganley
Dee Ganley CPDT, CABC, CDBC is a skilled dog trainer and
handler, with 35 years experience. She has competed or trained
in the sports of Schutzhund, obedience, herding, agility, and
freestyle with a variety of breeds from Dobermans to Papillion.
Her extensive background in teaching personal protection and
working with police, search-and-rescue, and service dog handlers
gives her a special perspective on “difficult” dog problems and
complex training puzzles.
For over 25 years, Dee taught training
classes and advised clients on how to create positive
partnerships with their dogs. In the mid-1990’s, Dee began
introducing positive reinforcement training to the shelter
world. From 1998-2004, she was the Training and Behavior Manager
for the Upper Valley Humane Society in Enfield, NH where she
created and ran a shelter and training program that taught dogs’
self-control skills, using positive reinforcement, to make the
dogs more adoptable. Her shelter rehabilitation program dropped
the euthanasia a rate from 43% to 23% by 2001.
Dee’s approach with the public and
shelter community is simple - Increase the behavior we want and
get rid of behavior we don’t want using humane methods while
having fun! In addition to teaching through positive
reinforcement, Dee places a very strong emphasis on managing a
dog's environment for safety. Dee works to help owners discover
the joy, solace, and companionship she enjoys with dogs through
increasing communication between dog and owner and building
trust. She teaches her students that "loving" our dogs won’t
create trustworthy companions. Commitment by a dog to his human
family is the result of humane training and diligent management.
It happens when the owner wholly accepts the responsibility to
lead, but not to dominate. Humane leadership allows more of the
dog's capacity to be used for learning rather than defense and
avoidance.
Today, Dee runs her private practice
and is the training director for a prison program that trains
service dogs. Her work includes traveling to help shelters and
rescues, and teaching other trainers practical, humane
techniques for forging a strong human-canine bond. She
specializes in aggression and other complex cases that benefit
from her keen eye and creative individual approach to each
unique situation.
Dee is the author of Changing
People Changing Dogs- Positive Solutions for Working with Dogs.
She has run workshops in the United States, England and Canada.
Dee is scheduled to share her techniques in Norway this spring.
